The Biggest 2025 Makeup Trends
As we head into another new year, you may already be itching to know what makeup looks are poised to take over. And while we already have the makeup trends from the spring 2025 runways to inform our predictions, there are so many other factors, from TikTok to trending colors. Ahead, we’ve rounded up what we believe will be the biggest 2025 makeup trends, with insights from Pinterest Predicts, as well as insights from industry experts Alexis Androulakis and Christina Basias, a.k.a. the Lipstick Lesbians, and Eduardo Jimenez, senior makeup artist at Julien Farel Restore Salon & Spa in New York City.
’80s Inspo
Quiet luxury, whom? Bold, ’80s-inspired decadence is ready for its beauty comeback. According to Pinterest, searches for purple blush are up 30 percent (the look was spotted on the 3.1 Phillip Lim runway in September), while “new wave makeup” is up 410 percent. Don’t be afraid to experiment: If purple blush feels too risky, try a glittery eye instead.
Eyeliner Revival
If you’ve cooled down on winged liner because Gen Z “cancelled” it (along with ankle socks and skinny jeans) you’ll be relieved to know the look is coming back. Everyone from Olivia Wilde to Tyla and, of course, Taylor Swift is wearing sharp cat-eyes as of late.
Dark Cherry Lips
If you’re looking for a new bold lip color, try this deeper take on classic red. On Pinterest, searches for “dark cherry red” are up 235 percent, and “cherry vibe” up 325 percent. Pair them with your cherry cola nails for a monochrome moment.
Multidimensional Eyeshadow
The Lipstick Lesbians expect a big moment for holographic shadows. “Not just duochrome, but trichomes, and new ways of playing with eyeshadow delivery systems and textures,” they say. Chappell Roan, who never shies away from a bold makeup look, is your North Star for this trend.
Skinny Brows
More and more celebs are stepping out with manicured brows (see: Juno Temple here). Unless you’re fully committed to the look, don’t do anything rash: You can get the look temporarily by putting concealer or foundation over your real brows, then drawing a faux skinny brow on top. Or try a super-graphic look, like the one from the Luar spring 2025 runway.
Satin Skin
As for complexion, we’re somewhere between velvet and glazed donut. Rather, the look of the moment will be “a mix between the two worlds, dewy and matte skin,” says Jimenez. Expect “Natural, glowy skin without excessive shine.”
