A skincare manufacturer has announced it is including more products in its voluntary recall nationwide and in Puerto Rico.
On Sept. 8, DermaRite Industries LLC. stated in an updated news release that they are “implementing measures to ensure resolution” after expanding their recall of skincare products due to a potentially life-threatening bacterial contamination.
“We recognize the impact this situation may have caused and sincerely regret any inconvenience. Restoring full product availability is our highest priority,” the news release stated.
“Importantly, we want to confirm that our wound care and nutritional products are not part of this voluntary product recall and remain available for your continued use,” DermaRite added, “Our actions reflect our dedication to acting quickly, transparently, and responsibly, so that we can maintain the highest standards of care.”

DermaRite initially announced the recall of several products, including hand soaps, skin creams and hair products on Aug. 8 due to the presence of Burkholderia cepacia, which can cause “life-threatening infections.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the germs can be found in water or soil and potentially spread from person to person and are difficult to treat due to their antimicrobial resistance. DermaRite claimed they hadn’t received reports of any adverse reactions to the products in the recall at the time.
The company issued an expansion of the recall, including more than 30 additional products on Aug. 27, according to a press release.
The recalled products include DermaKleen lotion soaps, PeriGiene antiseptic and KleenFoam soap, DermaFungal antifungal creams, DermaMed skin protectants, DermaSarra external analgesics and Gel Rite instant gel hand sanitizers.
The additional items affected by the recall include KleenFoam antimicrobial foam soaps, Renew Dimethicone skin protectants, Renew Periprotect skin protectants, Renew Skin Repair skin creams, Lantiseptic skin protectants, PeriGiene antiseptic cleansers and PeriGuard skin protectants, per ABC News.

“In healthy individuals with minor skin lesions, the use of the product will more likely result in local infections, whereas in immunocompromised individuals, the infection is more likely to spread into the bloodstream, leading to life-threatening sepsis,” DermaRite stated in their Aug. 8 news release.
The company added in their announcement update, “We greatly appreciate your cooperation, patience, and trust as we work through this process together.”
