Our Honest Review Of The Rhute Dermastamp

Hair was a big part of my childhood. My parents shaved my hair off twice a year until I reached the age of three. When I say shave, I don’t mean a cute bob or pixie crop, I mean razor-blade bald. The first year was down to hygiene and charity, something sanctified by Islamic traditions. The next two years were motivated by cultural beliefs which encourage regular shaving to promote stronger, healthier hair growth, or so the theory goes. Old wives’ tale or not, it worked. I grew up with thick, luscious hair which hairdressers often thinned down in an attempt to make things more ‘manageable’. Now in my 30s, things are a little different. Hairbands no longer snap in half when I tie them around my ponytail and my hair line is sparser than I remember.

It’s unnerving to see the natural changes that come with getting older, but I’m not into the business of letting it ruin my mood. Instead, over the last few months, I’ve implemented a few practical solutions into my weekly haircare routine: I wash my hair less, limit my use of heat tools and (crucially) use a hair density scalp serum after every wash day. But adding a dermastamp (also known as a hand held micro-needling tool) to my routine has by far been my most radical step yet. Enter: Rhute’s new Dermastamp, £32.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a dermatologist-approved minimally invasive treatment usually performed in clinics. It involves puncturing the skin using fine needles at a specific depth to create micro-injuries, which stimulate the body’s natural healing process. Microneedling treatments have made their way into our at-home routines via dermarollers and dermastamps.

Does microneedling work on scalps?

According to Grazia Beauty Panellist and founder of Rhute, Dr Aamna Adel, microneedling scalps comes with major benefits for hair growth. ‘It works by increasing blood flow to the scalp, stimulating growth factors, activating stem cells in hair follicles, improving collagen production, and it allows your products to absorb even better,’ she explains.

What is the Rhute Dermastamp?

The Rhute Dermastamp is a precision microneedling device made for all scalp types. It was developed using the same principles dermatologists apply in clinic but made for easy, accessible, at-home use – right down to the affordable price tag. Microneedling scalp treatments can cost from £100-£400 per session.

Engineered by consultant dermatologist and founder of the brand, Dr Adel, designed the dermastamp to right the wrongs she was seeing of at-home microneedling misuse. ‘I created the Rhute Dermastamp because I kept seeing the same pattern in-clinic, people were doing too much, too often, with the wrong tools. Dermarollers make control and precision almost impossible; the angle, the pressure and the dragging all increase risk and leave scalps inflamed or irritated. While dermastamps do exist, I designed this one very intentionally, from the needle length to the shape of the head, to deliver effective stimulation without unnecessary trauma. Microneedling should support the scalp, not injure it, and this was the first tool I feel confident recommending,’ adds Dr Adel.

The Rhute Dermastamp has been cleverly designed to create vertical pressure to allow needles to enter the scalp at a uniformed, precise depth. This means, les stress on the skin, less disruption to hair follicles, more targeted stimulation and few flare ups from uneven pressure. Rhute’s extensive research led it to opt in medical-grade stainless-steel 0.3mm needles coated in 24kt gold to prevent irritation, as well as a rounded head to follow the contour of the scalp. It also features a silicon handle for maximum grip.

My honest thoughts

Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: ‘While I’m keen to restore the hair around my hair line, I’ve always been too scared to delve into the world of microneedling. Dermarolling and dermastamping have always looked painful, and I’ve backed up my apprehension with horror stories I’ve stumbled across on TikTok. But Rhute’s new device has tipped the balance. Firstly, it’s made by a consultant dermatologist and backed by research, which immediately put me at ease. Secondly, the while I can see the needles, they are suspended in transparent plastic head that only exposes tiny needle tips, it means no matter how hard I apply pressure I’ll always stamp evenly. Which brings me onto my third point, it does not hurt – at all. In fact, I struggled to feel anything to the point I questioned if anything was even happening. But it definitely is. The device also feels super comfortable in my hands – thanks to the easy grip I have full control. I’ve only been using it for a week and can’t comment yet on it’s hair restoring prowess, but what I can say is using the brand’s Density + Repair Scalp Serum, £55, has left me with a visible halo of new growth around my hair line and I’m convinced the Dermastamp will follow suit.’
