Diptyque’s now wide range of scents is a bit intimidating to shop, especially with relatively high price points for the fragrance world. Being a bit overwhelmed is totally fair, but that’s where we come in. We’ve tried everyone of these fragrances to narrow it down to the standouts, so whether you’re into woody, citrus, spice, or a little mix of everything, we’ve got the Diptyque scent for you that deserves a permanent spot on your shelf.

Diptyque
The newest addition to Diptyque’s Les Essences de Diptyque Collection, Lazulio is a woody-leaning-amber fragrance that is inspired by the depth of lapis lazuli and the majesty of peacock feathers.
The scent has layers, grand and imperfect as they are, like the peacock’s plume it was inspired by. It starts with bright rhubarb, and it’s anchored by deep benzoin and vetiver—warm and woody. While pricier than the average Diptyque fragrance, this one is oh-so worth it for the amber-lovers out there.
Tangy rhubarb, creamy benzoin, Haitian vetiver, rose

One of my favorite things about Diptyque is the storytelling behind each fragrance. L’Eau Papier, in particular, is Diptyque at its most thoughtful. Inspired by the texture and smell of paper, ink, and skin, it’s a soft impression, not a room-filling entrance.
On first spray, it’s soft and subtly musky with steamed rice lending a warm, skin-like comfort. White musk, blonde woods, and mimosa settle in for a clean, airy finish that never turns soapy. The result is incredibly wearable, the kind of scent people lean in to ask about rather than clock from across the room.

If you’re curious about the woody fragrance family but are turned off by scents that overwhelm a room, Tam Dao is the perfect entry point. The opening is smooth and fresh, with cypress and a touch of spice adding lift before it settles into creamy sandalwood, balanced by cedar and a soft musk that keeps everything from becoming aggressive or overpowering.

Out of all the fragrance families, herbal has become my favorite as of late. There’s an ease to it that feels elegant and polished without being too try-hard. Philosykos is Diptyque’s perfect herbal expression, capturing an entire fig tree in one bottle. It opens crisp, green, and dewy before moving into a sweet fig note that feels natural instead of overbearing. And it’s all balanced by a bit of wood throughout.

If you could bottle a night out in Saint-Germain: jazz bars, old wood, and that feeling that you’ve walked into somewhere timeless—that’s Orphéon. Inspired by the legendary Parisian bar where the founders of Diptyque used to gather, this fragrance opens with a bright lift of juniper berries then settles into a creamy heart of jasmine. Grounded by cedar and tonka bean, it strikes that rare balance of being at once cozy and energizing.

For men who usually write off florals, I encourage you to explore them. Fleur de Peau is a great place to start. At its heart is musk with delicate iris. It’s sweet but never too sweet, rich without feeling heavy.

Inspired by orange blossoms and bitter orange peel, Eau de Sens masculine citrus that manages to avoid smelling like a cleaning solution or high school locker room cologne. It’s not a novel scent idea. Every house does a fresh bergamot at this point, but Diptyque’s is one of the best.
Ilio opens with a juicy hit of prickly pear. It dries down into soft florals, mostly iris, that remains smooth throughout the course of a day. It’s rich and sun drenched but dry; it never feels stuck to your skin. That makes it a really versatile and easy-to-wear scent.

There’s something addictive about Eau Duelle, even for those like me who don’t typically lean towards sweeter scents. It’s a gourmand vanilla, done in a grown-up way.
The core is a rich bourbon vanilla, but it’s cut through by pink peppercorn and juniper. Then it settles—like most men’s-leaning gourmand scents—into soft incense and smoky cypriol that give it a cozy, ambery edge. It’s a cold-weather classic, cozy and amber-y.

Per usual, my favorite from the brand also happens to be one of the priciest, but trust me, Lilyphéa earns it. It starts with aquatic violet leaves and a bright hit of cardamom. Then it softens into a creamy vanilla. It’s fresh but cozy, which makes it just as easy to wear during the day as it is at night.
