Haircare for summer: Leading Sydney hairstylists share their best summer haircare tips and the products they swear by for healthy hair

Leading Sydney-based hairstylists Poppy Amelia and Aisling Mulcair have revealed some of the best tips and tricks to look after your hair in summer and the products and treatments you need to beat things like frizz.

The pair, who are the co-founders and creative directors of KOHAUS in Bondi Junction and have years of experience between them, tell nine.com.au they have a passion for “creating hair that feels considered, personal, and effortlessly wearable.”

Considering a lot of Aussies spend time at the beach over summer and deal with extreme heat, Poppy recommends products that offer sun protection, like the Kérastase Paris Soleil range, and products like Keune’s Smooth Operator serum and Climate Control spray to help fight frizz and humidity.

Their salon is a Keune salon. Poppy also recommends the brand’s ”smoothing treatment”, nanoplasty.

“It’s become one of our most popular services,” she says.

“Many of our clients choose to have it done at the start of summer to keep their hair smooth, manageable, and healthy throughout the warmer months.

“Alongside this, we always recommend using products specifically designed to control frizz.”

If you’re going swimming, Aisling recommends applying a pre-swim leave-in product to help protect your hair.

“Always wet the hair before swimming and apply a light leave-in, especially if you’re blonde,” she says.

“It helps create a barrier against salt and chlorine and prevents dryness and colour fade.”

One of the biggests hair trends they’re seeing at the moment is the move towards “low-maintenance luxury”.

“Clients want hair that grows out beautifully and fits their lifestyle rather than chasing short-lived trends,” Aisling says.

Poppy also recommends “investing in a high-quality hair mask or leave-in conditioner,” for healthy hair all year ’round.

While she recommends brands like Keune and Kérastase, there’s one product she speaks highly of that won’t break the bank.

“For those looking for an effective option at a more accessible price point, the My Organics Goji Miracle Mask is a great alternative, without compromising on performance.”

It retails for upwards of $12 online.

Aussie icon unveils bold transformation

It comes after a hairdresser revealed some things she never does to her hair; including using hotel shampoos, tying her hair up wet and not using a heat protector.

“I always shampoo twice,” she added in a video.
